Aggregates donation improves paths at wildlife haven

Visitors can enjoy a more pleasant walk around a wildlife haven in south Wales after we donated the aggregates needed to improve the conservation area.

The donation was made to Caerphilly Woodlands Trust to repair storm damaged pathways and create a community space at Coed Y Werin to the south of the town.

Around 80 tonnes of scalpings and finer grade aggregates from our Machen quarry, about five miles from the woodland area, were given to the Trust.
The semi-natural woodland is a habitat for many animals and also has a diversity of trees, flora and fungi, including more than 100 species of flowering plants.

Coed Y Werin is owned by Caerphilly Woodlands Trust, which is run by a team of trustees and volunteers who laid the stone to create the paths.
Jayne Garland, Chair of the Trust, said: “Thanks to Heidelberg Materials’ support we have been able to make the woodland even more accessible.
“It has not only given us the opportunity to undertake repairs to our paths but also create a new area to be used for our community work particularly for our wellbeing events.”
