Donation supports outdoor learning in Cheddar
Batts Combe quarry supported the renovation of the outdoor learning area at Cheddar First School through material donations and volunteer work.
The outdoor space, which is used by pre-school children for outdoor learning and activities, was in need of improvements to make it safer and more functional.
Our Batts Combe quarry donated the asphalt, sand and aggregate needed, while Shaun Hartland, Production Supervisor, and Aaron Cocking, Higher Apprentice, volunteered their time through the company’s paid volunteer programme to complete the project, alongside local contractor, Andy Chambers of Chambers Services.
The work involved raising the existing asphalt path, removing the old turf and laying sand and stone to create a more accessible outdoor space, which will better support the pre-school’s outdoor learning activities.
“It was very rewarding to be able to use my paid volunteer day to contribute to this local project,” said Shaun. “It’s great to see the children making better use of the outdoor space.”
