Egford Brook riverbank works delayed until June 2026
We would like to alert local walkers that parts of the riverbank along the Egford Brook (also known as the Nunney Brook) are eroding, causing the path to become unstable in places.
The recent wet weather has made some sections of the footpath alongside the riverbank between Egford and the metal footbridge particularly challenging, so we ask all users to take extra care.
As shared at our local community liaison meetings, we had planned to carry out some improvements to the footpath on this part of our landholding at Whatley quarry earlier this year.
Unfortunately, however, there was an unexpected delay in receiving the necessary environmental licence that would have enabled us to carry out the work in a timely way and to align with fish spawning cycles.
Regrettably, the knock-on effect of this is that we have had to postpone improvements until June 2026 to ensure that fish are protected and the work is carried out in line with environmental best practice.
Thank you for your understanding.
Affected areas: The right of way footpath (FR14/60) along the riverbank between Egford (close to Vallis Veg and Vallis Farm, grid reference NGR ST 75709 48614) and the metal footbridge (near to where the brook meets the Mells River, grid reference NGR ST 75529 49076).
