Helping Thornbury in Bloom bring biodiversity to the town

Our Tytherington quarry is delighted to support local horticultural group, Thornbury in Bloom, who recently represented the South West in the prestigious RHS Britain in Bloom national competition.

The dedicated team of volunteers create horticultural displays to enhance and maintain the town’s appearance all year round. Their efforts include caring for gardens, planters and wild areas which helps improve biodiversity, creating habitats for pollinators and other wildlife.

We donated £500 to the award-winning group to help maintain its floral and environmental standards. We also worked together to improve the appearance of two planters at the entrance to our site, and members of the Thornbury in Bloom team visited the quarry to advise on the most suitable plants.

They recommended low maintenance plants such as herbs and perennials that will provide lasting colour and greenery throughout the year.

Judges from the Britain in Bloom competition recently visited Thornbury to assess the town’s floral displays, as well as community involvement and sustainability efforts.

Esther Hardy, Unit Manager, said: “We’re delighted to play a part in supporting Thornbury in Bloom in its work to enhance the local area, and we wish them the very best of luck in the national competition.”

Kath Greenman, Chair of Thornbury in Bloom, said: “We’re very grateful for the contribution from Tytherington quarry, it makes such a difference and helps us continue to provide education and promote the benefits of biodiversity and sustainability around town.

“Community involvement is one of our strengths and we’re fortunate that so many local groups are always keen to get involved.”
