Planning application is approved at Ingleton quarry

Ingleton quarry is a producer of high skid resistance stone used principally by Lancashire and North Yorkshire county councils for the surface dressing of roads.

The site experienced major stability problems on the southern side of the quarry a couple of years ago which prevented us removing around 1million tonnes of stone. It meant our accessible reserves, which should have lasted up to May 2018, would have been exhausted by Spring 2016.

A planning application was submitted earlier this year to enable the safe working of the planned reserves as well as securing additional reserves that lie within the current planning permission boundary and it was approved by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority in November.

The additional 1.5m/t reserves will allow the quarry to continue until May 2020 securing 12 full time jobs at the site as well as work for local contractors and hauliers.

Heidelberg Materials has agreed with the National Park to restrict traffic from the quarry on Saturdays and also offered to develop a 'sleep zone' to ensure HGVs coming to the quarry don’t pass through the village before 6am. We have also agreed to contribute to highways improvements such as footway and manhole cover repairs.

A formal quarry liaison meeting will be set up with the local community and  through discussion with the National Parks footpath officer and the Parish council a new quarry view point facility will be developed.

As part of the Ingleton application Heidelberg Materials has made also made a commitment to increase the use of rail from its Ribblehead sidings.
