Positive feedback to engaging workshop

The latest stakeholder engagement workshop involving major customers, trade associations and NGOs was held in April and included a site visit to Bulls Lodge quarry in Essex.

The group was shown around the asphalt plant by district operations manager Gavin Kinson, who explained how recycled road planings are added to new asphalt mixes. Unit manager Alex Smiles then showed delegates the sand and gravel processing plant.

Earlier, senior sustainability manager Martin Crow hosted a discussion session which included a presentation by Adrian Hadley, head of technical for aggregates and asphalt, covering both recycling and new products such as low temperature asphalts.

Concrete technical sales manager Jasen Gauld presented a case study on Powercrete, a new material which helps to dissipate the heat generated by highvoltage electrical power cables.

“We also had a discussion about the circular economy and its potential impact on construction,” said Martin. “The feedback from the event was really positive and we are already planning the next event in September.”
