Ribblesdale cement works hosts Year 8 pupils for educational visit

Year 8 pupils from Longridge High School in Lancashire visited our Ribblesdale cement works to learn more about the importance of cement in building and infrastructure projects.

The group enjoyed a guided tour of the site, where they observed the cement production process firsthand and gained a better understanding of how raw materials are transformed into essential building products.

The visit also highlighted the diverse career opportunities that we offer at Heidelberg Materials, including engineering, operational and technical roles.
Mark Yates, Operations Manager at Ribblesdale and STEM ambassador for Minerals Matter, said: “It was great to welcome the children to our facility and share how we contribute to the built environment they experience in their day-to-day lives.

“They asked some great questions, and there were certainly a few budding engineers of the future among them!”

Diane Lovatt, Teaching Assistant at Longridge High School, said: “We’re very grateful to the team at Ribblesdale for taking the time to welcome us and give our pupils such a fascinating insight into the business.

“I cannot express enough how much the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Since our visit, I have had pupils knocking on my door asking if they can be included in the next trip – a clear sign of how impactful and inspiring the day was!”
